DESCRIPTION:
In the municipality of Pachino we offer for sale a farmhouse with an old millstone that insists on a plot of 30,000 square meters less than three km from the sea and the city. In the immediate vicinity and in the adjacent lands, the famous cherry tomato is born. Soil quality, proximity to the sea and ideal temperatures are the characteristics that gave rise to the construction of numerous farms and mills in the lower province of Syracuse; before becoming famous all over the world for cherry tomatoes, it was already renowned for the production of wine which is still produced on a large commercial scale thanks to important vineyards and native vines. Today some of these splendid and important buildings have been expertly restored, but one of the oldest and most historical of the Pachino area still awaits to return to its original splendor. The Masseria dei Marchesi Trigona di Cannicarao was built by them in the second half of the 19th century, modifying the even older farm of the Maucini fiefdom, the same that ceded the lands to the Marquis. Since the land is cultivated with vineyards, the Masseria was built with a large millstone with twelve areas with a large cellar capable of containing all the wine produced; In addition, the warehouses reserved for the tools used in the same mill were also built. The Masseria was purchased by the grandfather of the current owners directly by the Marquis Vincenzo Trigona of Cannicarao and by the noblewomen Maria, Carolina, Giuseppina and Dorotea Merletta Trigona of Cannicarao noble owners originally from the nearby and vast county of Noto. For nearly a hundred years, the Masseria, of which we have historical memory, has been in full swing for the activity for which it was built and in which all the processes following the harvest took place: from the pressing to the fermentation of the must and in the end the long-awaited transformation in wine: the nectar of the gods. The large building as a whole measures about 1500 commercial square meters arranged in a quadrangular plan with the concept of main beam with a central courtyard closed on all four sides that communicate outside by means of a large iron door now inserted in a circular arch with portal and a beautiful wrought iron rose window. At the center of the courtyard, with stone flooring and pebbles arranged in a knife, the characteristic stone well that insists on a large underground cistern for water supply. Each building measures just over 400 square meters; the millstone, the cellar, the local warehouses and the storage of tools for a total of another 400 square meters, the farmer's and family's house and the house of about 150 square meters which housed the Marquis when for a long time the periods remained in the same Masseria. Following a post-war volumetric expansion towards the interior of the courtyard, the size of the entire Masseria reached the current commercial area of 1500 m2, excluding the large courtyard. The large land is always well maintained and equipped with at least 400 olive trees with a good number of old trees. The Masseria has retained its charm over time but also its consistency; visiting its large internal spaces, one is truly impressed by the conception of the spaces for the uses for which they were intended. The property is ideal for tourist accommodation. Possibility to purchase another 2 hectares of land with another small building of an additional 100 m2 on two levels.
