Description

We offer a panoramic luxury located on a green hill. It was built in the early years of the last century in a mix of architectural styles between neo-Gothic and Italian Liberty. This property includes the historical villa and an independent building, both surrounded by a large courtyard mostly paved in stone and a large, well-defined plot of land. The villa is characterized by a large terraced patio accessible by a double flight of lateral stairs, typical for stately villas throughout Europe and which overlooks the courtyard and the large land that slopes down towards the valley. The charm of this villa is unmistakable with its characteristic neo-Gothic stone elements including the raised battlements and the characteristic windows that vaguely recall those of the Florentine pointed arches. Inside this charming villa there's a double living room with a still functioning historic fireplace, a kitchen, a bathroom and a dining room which is also a large hallway that acts as a connection between all the rooms characterized by doors surmounted by wooden jambs white stone wood and where the access staircase is located to reach the sleeping area on the upper floor with the characteristics of an attic with particular exposed wooden beams and where the three bedrooms, a large bathroom and the small terrace with stunning views. At this altitude, you can also admire the majestic building home to the Archbishop's Seminary of the Province of Syracuse. From all the rooms it is possible to enjoy the panoramic view that reigns supreme even at dusk when the town of Canicattini Bagni and the city of Syracuse with its historic center, Ortigia Island, are tinged with warm colors with shades and reflections of light between red and yellow.
On the property there is another independent stone building built in the same period used as an annex on two levels and which was most likely a small private church for religious worship and which today has a living area with kitchenette on the ground floor and a bedroom on the first floor.
It is also worth mentioning the history of this stately property. The Villa was built by a General of the Italian army who, returning home after the end of the First World War, decided to build a stately villa in his town of origin. With a distinctive character that could be seen from every part of the town and a style that almost faithfully reproduced another residence in which he had found hospitality before, between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto in northern Italy. Once he found the most panoramic position of the town, he purchased the land on the hill above Canicattini Bagni in the same place where presumably existed an ancient fortress with a watchtower from the Middle Ages and of which no trace remains except from sources some people think that under the villa there could still be remains of the ancient walls which were then covered to make place for other cultures. There was certainly a more recent ruin that was demolished to make space for this stately home. After the death of the General and due to the neglect of some heirs for more than fifty years it was abandoned to its fate, falling into ruin but by a twist of fate the current owners purchased this villa and passionately dedicated themselves to its recovery, reporting it to its original state as it is today. The land extends towards the valley with olive trees and many carob trees and the presence of an imperious Cedar of Lebanon but what characterizes the land are the various differences in level with terraces characterized by the presence of dry stone walls typical of these areas and a path of stone paving at least as old as the house that reaches up to the village of Canicattini Bagni, with the sensation of being able to touch the ancient Sicilian tile roofs. But among the most important things within the property there is the presence of an ancient tomb from the Byzantine era inside a natural cave but which in more recent times was used as a shelter for animals. In a part of the land where there is a natural depression, an area has been set up where it is possible to build a swimming pool to enjoy the view even better. The position of this villa is dominant with its priceless view and with the gaze that gets lost being able to observe at a glance the unique profile of the volcano Mount Etna, the suggestive port of Syracuse with the island of Ortigia and the extreme tip of southern Sicily Capo Passero and Isola delle Correnti that close this spectacular natural scenery. This Iblean territory which includes part of the Val di Noto is characterized by suggestive panoramas, uncontaminated scenery between Mediterranean scrub and stone quarries with also the presence of important archaeological and historical site, that make it a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with other places such as the ancient rock settlement of Pantalica, the towns Noto and Palazzolo Acreide. Catania-Fontanarossa airport is just 40 minutes away by car.
