Description

We offer for sale a luxury property in Sicily in the city of Syracuse. The property is made up of some ancient buildings that belonged to a noble family and among which it includes an elegant villa from times gone by with over ten thousand meters of land.
What characterizes and makes the entire property unique is its position between two of the most important Latomie in the city, i.e. stone quarries dug by the ancient Greek founders of the city. The stone blocks that contributed to the construction of the most important temples in the city came from these Latomie. cities including the Temple of Athena, that of Artemis, of Zeus and of Apollo. The presence of this ancient nineteenth-century farmhouse gave the name to the homonymous Latomie known as the Casale which represents them: over the centuries the Latomie have changed names but have still retained their names to identify them individually, namely Lalatomia Broggi the one further east and the Tagliatella further west which in turn borders that of Santa Venera passing under a stone arch also dug into the rock. It is precisely the Latomies who have dictated the boundaries of this property of over one hectare which has various terraced areas.
This beautiful farmhouse, in reality a luxurious stately villa, was built on the remains of an even older villa from the Roman era which influenced its construction: originally this villa had all barrel vaults and all internal walls painted with the technique of the fresco and dry paintings, of these precious paintings created by artists of the time, most of the paintings in the vaults and only a few on the walls are still clearly visible.
The location of this property is unique. From the bottom of the southern ridge from which the ancient Greeks did not escape from the excavation of the Latomie, the farm road begins which climbs up to the top of the same rocky ridge.
The villa stands at the highest point of the property as if to underline its dominant position over the entire extension of the relevant land. It is no coincidence that the Normans built a stone watchtower here, which was later taken over by the Spanish and which still stands today. on the east side to close one of the boundaries of this property
The Villa has several rooms, many of which have beautiful original floors, including a reception hall with a central hall and other rooms including bedrooms and other hallways, a large bathroom, a large kitchen, a covered outdoor patio, more technical rooms, an oven room and two further rooms, one with a bathroom on the floor below. Further down, not far from the Villa, there is a lovely annex consisting of a bedroom, a living room with kitchenette and a level terrace from which it is possible to enjoy the view of a large part of the property, also a warehouse with driveway access usable as a garage for at least two cars.
This villa absolutely deserves to return to its former splendor even if it still retains its charm today. It is one of the very few ancient villas still present in the city of Syracuse. With an adequate building recovery project, partly conservative and largely modernised, with also a more efficient new layout of the internal environments: this property would regain the status of a prestigious villa of refined beauty as well as rarity due to its exclusive position among these truly evocative places. Here you can breathe the history of twenty-eight centuries: walking inside the exclusive terrain it is possible to look out and observe these caves from above, a priceless view where with your mind you can only try to imagine that the stolen stone was excavated. by the hands of man almost 2800 years ago and with that same stone the ancient Pagan Temples and the most important buildings were then built which made the City of Syracuse among the two most important powers in the Mediterranean together with Alexandria in Egypt.
The next owner of this exclusive Villa will have a lot to tell his guests, being able to observe the vertical walls of the Cavee it is possible to clearly see the characteristics of the rock carving with tools pushed by the hand of man in Greek times. It is also possible to see rock caves, votive niches from the Roman-Byzantine era and other curiosities.
This villa was also graphically represented by ancient 19th century travelers at the time of the Grand Tours to visit the oldest cities in Italy and who immortalized it forever in some paintings.
This elegant villa in Sicily truly deserves to return to its ancient splendor in this sun-kissed land rich in history, art and culture.
